Indian batting order finally came good at the right time as they managed to take a lead of 46 runs with still 5 wickets in hand of their first innings of the second test held in Kolkata. South Africa, who opted to bat first, managed to score 296 runs with a good little 35 runs last wicket stand before Zaheer trapped Parnell in front of the wicket for 12 runs. Zaheer was the pick of the Indian bowlers as he took 4 major wickets.
Sehwag and SachinIndia, who started their first innings, got off to a flier with Sehwag and Gambhir thrashing the fast bowlers on all parts off the ground. Gambhir finally was run out when he reached 25 runs with a bad call from Sehwag from other end. Vijay who went in next dint capitalize the opportunity he got as he edged Morkel to de Villiers.
Then it was the two masters who took the game away from Proteas as they both added 249 for third wicket with Sehwag with his usual fashion dominated the South African bowlers and finally he felt to Duminy because of lack of concentration when he reached 165 runs of 174 balls which included 23 fours and 2 sixes. Sachin who also made his 47th test century and also his fourth consecutive test hundred dint stay till the end of the day as he got out to a good delivery from Harris only to find the ball fell safely at the hands of Kallis at slips when he reached 106 runs. Finally at the end of play, Steyn managed to pick up the wicket of Badrinath for 1 run and then the play of second day ended with 342 runs for the loss of 5 wickets with Laxman and Mishra remained in the grease.
